Thermomechanical Energy Converters for Harvesting Thermal Energy: A Review

چکیده

Thermal energy, i.e., the electromagnetic energy in infrared range that originates from direct solar radiation, outgoing terrestrial waste heat combustion of fuels, heat-emitting electrical devices, decay radioactive isotopes, organic putrefaction and fermentation, human body heat, so on, constitutes a huge flux circulating on earth surface. However, most converters designed for conversion into electricity, such as photovoltaic cells, are mainly focused using narrow part lying visible spectrum, while thermomechanical engines fueled by broad then convert it mechanical work or store deformation, paid less attention. Although efficiency devices is relatively low, they can be applied to collect which otherwise contributes negative climate changes. In this review, operational principles description basic materials utilize thermal given. addition conventional macroscopic engines, based thermoacoustic, thermomagnetic, thermoelastic, hydride converters, shape memory alloys, emergent described classified smart actuators, breathing frameworks, thermoacoustic micro-transducers, nanomechanical resonators, plasmomechanical systems, optothermal walkers. The performance different types compared.
